Antarctica
Antarctica is the highest, coldest, windiest, driest and most unforgiving place on earth. Temperatures can reach as low as -89.6°C while the average temperature is -49°C. Winds reach high speeds of 200kph. The combination of both wind and temperature causes wind chill which lowers temperatures and sucks the heat from one’s body.
Ice can form in one breath, skin sticks to steel and life and free water is scarce. Most life is confined to coastal Nunatak's. Even invertebrates such as mites, fleas and other flightless insects must feed on bacteria. Anti-freeze substances in their body allow them to withstand temperatures as low as -30°C.
